Youth & Family Educational Programming

Each new year brings new opportunities, and this year we had a fresh new approach to much of our youth programming!

We held 3 day camps this summer: one per month. In June, we offered the popular Junior Arborist camp for the 4th year, providing youth the opportunity to prune and climb trees as “junior arborists”!

New in July was the “Living the Garden Life” in which we explored many of the little creatures that find their home in the garden. We banded birds and explored worms and life in the soil. We absolutely cannot forget the insects!

Our second new camp held in August was all about “Eating the Gardens” as we made some delicious, straight from the garden recipes and explored some of the lesser-common edibles!

Both of our new camps gave us the opportunity to go on field trips to area organizations with similar missions, such as a visit to Blue Dasher Farm to see a honey bee operation in person, and the Local Foods Education Center to see (and eat!) fruit and vegetable production!

If you have enjoyed some of our traditional programming have no fear, as we will continue the Books in Bloom for preschoolers each week during June and July. We had a great group of families come and read, do crafts and explore the Gardens with us and we look forward to another year of bringing families together in the Gardens.

We kicked off the summer’s programming with our annual Garden Discovery Festival. The Festival was  part of National Public Gardens Week, celebrated in public gardens around the nation. The Festival was a fun-filled way to learn and interact with the gardening and natural world.
