Location: McCrory Gardens Maintenance Shop
Duties: Planting, dividing, deadheading, mulching, and general maintenance throughout the gardens, or for a specific garden area. Answering questions from the public pertaining to the gardens.
Skills: Interest and willingness to learn about plants, good communication skills, able to perform light physical work outdoors in various weather conditions
Training: General training & specialized training occurs “on-the-job”
Hours: March 1st – April 30th 8:00am – 4:30pm (2 hour shifts minimum preferred) *Depends on weather conditions & need -- May 1st – September 31st 7:30am – 4:00pm (2 hour shifts minimum preferred) -- October 1st – November 31st 8:00am – 4:30pm (2 hour shifts minimum preferred) *Depends on weather conditions & need
Dress: Volunteers should be well groomed and dressed appropriately to present a good impression of McCrory Gardens and also to be safe while working in the gardens. Sturdy shoes, Volunteer badge should be worn at all times. The following items are considered inappropriate attire for McCrory Gardens: Open-toed sandals or shoes, Spaghetti-strapped shirts, Tank tops or revealing shirts, Short shorts or mini skirts, Sheer clothing, T-shirts with inappropriate or offensive gestures or advertising, Bathing suits, Excessively ripped jeans, pants or shirts
